Former Warriors captain, Knowledge Musona’s recent interview shocked football fans as he opened up about his challenging experiences during his time in Germany. Musona, who joined 1899 Hoffenheim in 2011 from Kaizer Chiefs, shared the highs and lows of his journey in the Bundesliga.
A Promising Debut
After signing with Hoffenheim, Musona made his debut as a substitute in a 3–1 victory against SC Freiburg. He quickly made an impact, scoring his first goal in a 2–1 DFB-Pokal win over Köln on October 25, 2011.
Augsburg Loan and Discrimination
However, Musona faced significant hurdles during his one-year loan to Augsburg for the following season. He revealed that the coach instructed him to take a backseat and refrain from speaking like an expert during training sessions and meetings. Musona was told that as an African player from Zimbabwe, he should listen more to players from Brazil and Germany.

Musona described this experience as the most disturbing in his European career. The coach’s discriminatory attitude made him cry, and he promptly informed his parent club about the situation. Unfortunately, when his parent club confronted the coach, he denied the allegations. As a result, Musona was excluded from the match day squad and was even denied a place on the bench.
“I was at loan there, I wanted to cry, but there was nothing I can do because I was loaned i didn’t belong to the club. I told my parent Club, they asked that Coach, He denied all that,. And from there i was not even considered to be on the bench but I was always out of the match day squad,” stated Musona

Fortunately, luck was on Musona’s side when the coach was eventually fired. Under the new leadership, Musona’s talents were recognized, and he started receiving regular playing time.
