FORMER Movement for Democratic Change Member of Parliament for St Mary’s constituency Marvelous Khumalo has been arrested, the Zim Morning Post can reveal.
Khumalo is facing charges of fraud after he duped a Chitungwiza man identified as Joseph Munyonho at least USD7 500 for a residential stand which he claimed was on sale.
Khumalo, who is also the Director for Chitungwiza and Manyame Residents Association (CAMERA), is said to have been selling commercial and residential stands to desperate residents of Chitungwiza.
He is currently detained at St Mary’s Police station and the RRB for the case is CR 446/8/19. Khumalo is expected to appear in court tomorrow Tuesday 27 August at Makoni.
The matter is said to have occurred on 25 July 2011 in Chitungwiza where Joseph Munyonho paid USD 7 500 to Khumalo for a residential stand in Chitungwiza but it was later discovered that there was a double allocation on the stand.
“On July 25,2011, I bought a stand for USD$7 500 measuring 500square meters from Khumalo and I signed an agreement of sale, but later I was told that the land was a double allocation,” said Munyonho.
In 2012 Khumalo was subsequently charged with criminal abuse of duty as a public officer and three counts of theft.
He also appeared in court for allegedly diverting the CDF money to personal use and he is reported to have bought himself a lorry before pocketing part of the money.
