FC Platinum’s dream shattered

F.C Platinum’s dream in the African Safari has suffered a huge blow after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat against Horoya AC of Guinea on Tuesday night.

The Platinum miners needed a win to sustain their dream to qualify to the knockout stage.

Second Half goals from Ocansey Mandela and Yakubu Hudu in the 58th and 79th minute gave Horoya the much needed maximum points.

Horoya is now seating in second position from the Confederation African Football reigning champions who edged The Buccanias Orlando Pirates by 2-0 at home.

FC Platinum are still to find the back of the net since the departure of Rodwell Chinyengetere.

The Norman Mapeza coached side no longer have any chance to qualify to the next round, however Mapeza still believes that they will do better in the last two fixtures which are all but dead rubbers to Pure Platinum Play.

“It is a learning curve for us and now we have to make sure that we do our best in the last two games,” said Mapeza in a post match interview.

FC Platinum is the fourth club from Zimbabwe to compete in the mini league phase of  the CAF Champions League, following the footsteps of Dynamos FC, Caps United and Monomotapa.

Dynamos remain the most successful team from Zimbabwe after making it to the final of African biggest club competition in 1998 and the semi finals in 2008.
