MASVINGO— All roads lead here this Saturday as President Emmerson Mnangagwa takes his thank you rallies to Rutenga where he is expected to address thousands of his party supporters drawn from all corners of the province in appreciation for voting resoundingly for him in the July 30, 2018 harmonised polls.
Zanu PF provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira said that the preparations are now at an advanced stage and the people of Masvingo are ready to welcome their leader.
“This is the home province for our President so we say he is coming home. Masvingo has a special place in his heart and this Saturday he will meet the people who entrusted him with the mandate to lead this country.
“We can safely say all the logistical issues have been addressed and people will be transported with buses from their districts. We have liased with schools to release their buses so that they carry our people to the rally.
“We are expecting over 30 000 people because this is a Zanu PF stronghold,” said Chadzamira.
Asked on the choice of the rally venue, Chadzamira said that the President feels the need to break the conventional tradition of holding rallies in towns and cities.
“Our people are in the rural areas and we have to go to them hence the reason why we chose Rutenga which is in Mwenezi district,” said Chadzamira.
Masvingo was once dubbed the MDC territory but Zanu PF now controls the narrative after taking home 25 out of the 26 parliamentary seats, losing only the Masvingo urban constituency.
