- Honda Fit driver attempting to overtake despite misty conditions
- One fatality registered
A FALCON College bus was on Wednesday involved in a head-on collision with a Honda Fit in Bulawayo, instantly killing the driver of the smaller vehicle.
According to a communique addressed to parents from Dave van Wyk, the headmaster of the college, the 27-seater bus was ferrying workers to Falcon College when the accident occurred.
Wyk said some of the college workers were slightly injured.
“Some of our workers who were on the bus sustained minor injuries; no students or teachers were on the bus,” he said.
Wyk, who visited the accident scene, said the accident occurred when a Honda Fit travelling in the wrong lane and overtaking on a blind rise in wet, misty conditions, smashed head-on into the college bus.
Images circulating on social media depict extensive damage to both vehicles.
According to the Meteorological Department, Zimbabwe is currently experiencing widespread rains, with Bulawayo and other Matabeleland provinces expected to register above 50mm.
Police have warned road users to exercise extreme caution during this period.
