Premier Soccer league sponsors Delta beverages has been fingered in the fight to relegate Herentals FC from the top-flight league in the country.
Aan investigation which was done by Zim Morning Sports revealed that there are some officials within Delta who want Chapungu FC back in the league at the expense of students who were accused of match fixing but acquitted twice.
“The problem is we have certain people who have a soft spot for Chapungu at Delta and they want them back at the expense of Herentals, ” revealed an official from Delta
According to our source the fixture has been delayed by the sponsors who want the issue to be settled.
“Delta wants this issue to be resolved and on the suggested fixture they have Chapungu instead of Herentals so as sponsors we are only waiting for Herentals to be booted out and the fixture will be released, ” added our source
Herentals were facing two counts of match-fixing and were convicted on the match against Black Rhinos but the matters were appealed and the students emerged winners.
However the league has been put on hold because of COVID-19 a pandemic which has caused many leagues to be put on hold.
However in an open letter addressed to the media Herentals FC owner and Captain felt he is being vindicated by certain people who he is not at liberty mention
The letter acknowledged that there is a third force fighting students especially on the allegations of taking football matters to the courts.
However, Herentals is arguing that the matter was withdrawn and they have yet followed football channels to address their grievances by appealing to the Zimbabwe Football Association appeals committee.
