Cyclone Idai: Declare missing people dead – Sacco

CHIMANIMANI – The Chimanimani East Member of Parliament Joshua Sacco has urged the government to declare missing people from Cyclone Idai dead.

Sacco told the Zim Morning Post recently that though search for the missing people was still ongoing, there was need to officially declare the missing people dead.

“There are some searches still going on but at this time we think the government must declare those that are still missing dead,” said Sacco.

He said the government mobile national registration process for the victims of Cyclone Idai was ongoing smoothly.

“The ongoing registration process has been a huge success as many have managed to get their national identity and birth certificates lost during the Cyclone Idai,” Sacco said.

More than 3000 people in Chimanimani have managed to get the identity documents and birth certificates.

“For the past month the mobile registration team has been doing work in Chimanimani, but now they are in Chipinge and all those in need of national identity documents and birth certificates must go and register,” said the legislator.

Cyclone Idai ravaged Chimanimani and Chipinge and left hundreds of people and livestock dead while property worth thousands of dollars was destroyed.
