Counterfeit alcoholic brands have flooded the Zimbabwean market this festive season amid reports that three people have already died after consuming the fake brands.
Investigations by the Zim Morning Post revealed that the market has been flooded with popular brands such as Johnnie Walker’s Red Label, Jameson, Red, Grants and Best brands.

“The bevearages are being imported from Mozambique and they are very cheap,” said one man who held the Jameson he had bought in the streets of Harare.
Social media reports claim three people succumbed to the drinks after merry making at Pabloz, a local beer joint.

“We are not sure where they bought the bevearages but one of the victims collapsed after departing Pabloz,” said the source who prefered annonymity.
“Jameson is being sold at $10 or even less and it is cheaper as compared to prices in the local shops.
“With a bleak festive season due to the biting economic situation many people are buying the brands in the streets.”

Socialites such as Kuda Musasiwa took to his microblogging site Twitter and warned revellers not to buy the cheap beer brands.

Popular joints across Harare such as Zindoga, Warren Park Mereki, Chikwana and Ziko are said to be awash with the fake brands.
