Council markets under scrutiny

Harare City Council (HCC) has this week set up an investigative committee on the proper management of council markets following massive corruption that saw residents being overcharged.

In a full council meeting on Wednesday, Acting Mayor Enock Mupamawonde said Harare welcomed the development.

“Council hereby approves the composition and reference of the Special Committee on the management of council markets.

“The Special Committee commences investigations as soon as its members receive appointment letters from the town clerk, Hosiah Chisango and reports to council in three weeks’ time,” Mupamawonde said.

The Special Committee members will start work as soon as they receive their appointment workers.

The allocation of market stalls have of late being headlined with corruption and nepotism and such a committee will go a long way in bringing normalcy.
