Chiwenga recovering in South Africa, from a rare disease says ED

President Emmerson Mnangagwa says Vice President Constatino Chiwenga is holed up in a South Africa hospital where he is recovering from a rare disease.

Addressing delegates who attended the Women’s League National Assembly Meeting in Harare on Friday the president said the former army general was now recovering and has started light exercise.

“Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who has been ill for some time is in South Africa where he is being treated of a rare disease,” Mnangagwa said.

“We are always talking every time when he is able and I am happy to know that he is now recovering since he has started to do exercises.”

Mnangagwa said the frequent visiting of hospitals between India and South Africa has helped him in the fight for his life.

Chiwenga has been battling for his life since 2018 after what he said was poisoning during the November 2017 coup and he has been in and out of hospitals since then.

He has been travelling between India and South Africa and this is the longest time he has not been in public for more than two months.
