CHITUNGWIZA town mayor Lovemore Maiko has on Tuesday appointed David Duma as the acting town clerk following the suspension of George Makunde, Zim Morning Post has learnt.
Duma’s appointment was communicated in a letter dated September 2 and is in line with the Urban Council’s Act Section 139 (3) (a).
“In reference to the above, you have been appointed the acting town clerk with immediate effect.
“This has been necessitated by the suspension of the former town clerk, in line with urban council’s section 139(3)(a),” part of the letter read.
Makunde was suspended on allegations of gross insubordination and sabotaging council events organised by the mayor and full council meetings.
Meanwhile, the discord in Chitungwiza council is believed to be triggered by political party affiliations.
Such precedent was set in Harare when former mayor Bernard Manyenyeni clashed with town clerk Tendai Mahachi in a feud that premised on party lines.
Makunde is alleged to have conspired with the ZANU PF youths to assault Maiko and his team on Monday.
