CAPS United players temporarily shelved their title ambitions on Tuesday to submit written statements to police over allegations of assault.
Dominic Chungwa, Carlos Rusere, Ronald Chitiyo and John Zhuwawu paid the police a visit after they assaulted referee Happy Mabhena after a league match against Chicken Inn last month at Barbourfields Stadium.
The chaos erupted following a decision by referee Mabhena to award a late penalty to Chicken Inn after goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga was adjudged to have fouled Obriel Chirinda inside the box.
Chungwa, Rusere, Chitiyo and Zhuwawu allegedly assaulted Mabhena accusing the referee of favouring Chicken Inn in a match they lost 1- 0 through a penalty that was scored by Passmore Benard.
The episode comes as Makepekepe were recently arraigned before the Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee to answer charges of violent conduct and stoppages during that match.
The PSL recently fined TelOne fitness trainer Bazel Sanyanga RTGS Z9, 500 after he was found guilty of of insulting match officials and violent conduct in his side’s match against Herentals at Ascot stadium in August.
Sanyanga has been fined $12,000 of which $2,500 was suspended for the rest of the season on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
TelOne FC were handed a Z$27,000 fine by the PSL after they were found guilty of instigating violence in a match against Herentals at Ascot Stadium in August.
The Gweru-based side was fined Z$15,000 of which Z$2,500 was suspended for the rest of the season, provided that the club does not commit a similar offence by the end of the 2019 season.
