Breaking: I will show Zacc how it is done: Advocate Thabani Mpofu

Prominent Harare lawyer, Advocate Thabani Mpofu, said he intends to write an opinion to show the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) how he intends to help and prosecute corrupt bigwigs.

This comes after Zacc boss advised Mpofu that he is free to approach the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in order to join in the fight against corruption.

In an interview with the Zim Morning Post Mpofu said he is ready to show Zacc how it is done.

I will respond. I intend to write them an opinion showing how it can be done. Will share with everyone when the time comes,” Mpofu said.

Mpofu had challenged Zacc and demanded to be allowed to prosecute those who allegedly looted Chiadzwa diamonds and corruptly benefited from Command Agriculture funds.

Mpofu claimed that those who benefitted unlawfully from the Chiadzwa gems are known and that what happened with Command farming is known as well and he is ready to prosecute for free.

This is my public offer to you Justice Matanda-Moyo. Give me three of the big ones.

Give me three who have looted our billions and I will prosecute them for free. The ball is in your court, M’lady.”

In an exclusive interview with the Zim Morning Post Matanda Moyo advised Mpofu to approach the NPA because her organisation is mandated to investigate only.

I am thrilled to note the offer to prosecute purported to have come from advocate Thabani Mpofu. Although I have seen the mesaage as a screenshot circulating on twitter, I haven’t been able to find the primary source of the offer,” Matanda Moyo said.

I can only hope it came from the learned Advocate’s authentic handle. While I welcome his desire to jump into the ring and join the fight against corruption, let me categorically state that prosecution is the prerogative of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) which is led by the Prosecutor General (PG).
