· She survives death by a whisker
A 27- year old woman, Blessing Tsuro from Dunstan farm, Ruwa was left nursing severe bodily injuries after being hit with a machete all over her body for turning down a love proposal.
The alleged assailant Norman Yaliso (40), once proposed to Tsuro but she turned down the proposal.
According to the informant, Lloyd Mandikisi, the incident took place at around 2200 hours after the accused went to knock at the complainant’s window but she refused to open.
“When the accused overheard the conservation, he forcibly opened the door and struck the complainant several times until she sustained two deep cuts on the right hand, leg and shoulder before her husband’s brother intervened.
The accused attempted to kill the complainant’s husband’s brother after he tried to chase him.
Yaliso tried to commit suicide when he went back to his house and the complainant has been rushed to Dema hospital by Phiri, where she was referred to Chitungwiza hospital,” Mandikisi said.
Meanwhile, a police officer was clubbed and hacked to death recently while his colleague was seriously injured, while defending workers at Good Hope Mine in Battlefields.
The workers were under attack from a criminal gang armed with machetes, logs, axes and catapults.
In early November last year, Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP), a local NGO reported that 105 people had been killed in the mining town of Kadoma in three months from August to October this year, while hundreds of others were severely injured in these machete attacks.
