At LEAST 200 were arrested on January 15 in Mazowe on the second day of an on-going operation against illegal mining activities, code named “chikorokoza ngachipere”.
On the first day of the clampdown, January 14, about 907 illegal miners in Shamva, Jumbo Mine and Mazowe River were arrested.
At least 18 vehicles were impounded on Tuesday in Mashonaland Central, before the latest blitz.
“The public is warned against frequenting and associating with illegal miners as some arrests were made for criminal trespassing on people who entered private premises without authority, prospecting for gold without licences and being found in possession of gold without requisite permits,” police said in a statement yesterday.
