Zimbabwean nationals are among Africans who have been fingered in an election rigging plot exposed ahead of the forthcoming election in Malawi.
The Zimbabwean nationals include former Zimbabwe Republic Police commissioner general Augustine Chihuri, digital media consultant and expert (on African elections) Delta Ndou, Dan Mandichoma and one Chafa.
Chihuri is in self – imposed exile in the Southern African country where he skipped the border just after Operation Restore Legacy that saw the resignation of former President Robert Mugabe.
Ndou calls herself a digital evangelist who believes in technology solutions and is well published writer on elections and digital media.
The names of other alleged accomplices were not yet ascertained.
Opposition party United Transformation Movement’s leader Saulos Chilima made the startling revelations via micro-blogging site Facebook live video on Sunday morning.
He did not mince his words and openly alleged that ‘ Zimbabwean nationals including Augustine Chihuri are in the county to help ruling party Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rig elections.
He further claimed that Chihuri, was hired by DPP government to train parallel police officers who will pose as legitimate officers and do heinous acts in a bid to rig elections in favour of the ruling DPP who seem to have become unpopular.
He further said Chihuri must leave Malawi as soon as possible as he was interfering in local processes
“We are saying that Chihuri must leave our country and he must not mess in our elections,” he said.
Chihuri was at the helm of former president Robert Mugabe’s police force for more than two decades.
Five other people implicated are reported to have fled Malawi and these include Priscilla Mukinda and Boniface Kisokya both from Kenya, Ndou and Mandichoma (Zimbabwe).
The scheme is believed to have been orchestrated by Peter Mutharika’s ally Glen Mpani who is in hiding in Blantyre.
