Zimbabwe women cricket team embark on historic tour of USA

Zimbabwe’s women’s national cricket team will make history this week as they head to the United States for their first-ever tour of the country, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) announced Monday.

The groundbreaking tour, which runs from April 25 to May 3, includes three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against the USA Women, all to be played at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.

Zimbabwe and the USA last met in Harare in October 2024, but this series marks the first time the Lady Chevrons will play on American soil.

“The US tour is a start to a steady build-up towards the Ireland series in July,” said Zimbabwe Women’s head coach Walter Chawaguta. “It also kickstarts our journey towards the Africa qualifiers later this year.”

Chawaguta said the squad for the tour reflects a “bigger picture” approach, combining experience with emerging talent. Veterans such as Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Modester Mupachikwa, Josephine Nkomo, Precious Marange and Nomvelo Sibanda will lead the team alongside rising stars like Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza.

The T20I matches are scheduled for April 25, 27 and 29, followed by ODIs on May 1 and 3.

ZC said the tour underlines its commitment to expanding international exposure for Zimbabwe Women and developing depth in the squad.
