HARARE — Tennis Zimbabwe has barred Walter Jera from hosting a scheduled engagement with parents and stakeholders at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, saying he remains suspended and cannot act on behalf of the organization.
In a letter dated April 10, Acting Tennis Zimbabwe President Glory Gijima said Jera is not authorized to hold meetings under the association’s banner.
“You remain duly suspended and are barred from representing Tennis Zimbabwe or engaging in any Tennis Zimbabwe activities, including engaging its stakeholders,” Gijima wrote. “For the avoidance of doubt, this includes the parents meeting, which will be chaired by sitting executive members, Board of Control members and selectors.”
The association rejected Jera’s cited legal opinions, stating they were made in his personal capacity and had no bearing on decisions made by the board.
The Board of Control also responded to Jera’s mention of an ongoing investigation by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, saying the executive board has not been notified of any such inquiry.
“You refer to an investigation by ZACC… The executive board remains unaware of this report, neither have they received any communication from ZACC to that effect,” the letter read. “The contents of the report are only known to yourself.”
Tennis Zimbabwe also defended Masvingo’s status as a “fully paid-up affiliate” and accused Jera of attempting to override board resolutions.
Jera has insisted the meeting will proceed, framing it as a necessary engagement with concerned parents and stakeholders amid ongoing governance concerns in the sport.
Meanwhile, the Sports and Recreation Commission said it will engage Tennis Zimbabwe over what it described as the leak of internal documents to the public.
“The SRC will engage Tennis Zimbabwe to ascertain why documents of this nature are being made public when due processes, according to their statement, are not yet complete,” SRC Director Elta Nengomasha said in a statement released Friday.
“SRC will avail a position to the NSA regarding the above which the NSA has now officially communicated to the SRC today 11 April 2025 albeit having published their notice on social media two days ago,” she added.
