Teenagers kill soldier in mother’s defence
A soldier stationed at Zaka district in Masvingo Province has been murdered in cold blood by three teenagers, Zim Morning Post can report.
The assailants have been identified as Tapiwa Munekwa (15), Noah Musenyi (12) and Tinashe Munekwa (10).
The trio handed themselves over to police, soon after committing the heinous act.
Aaron Bhasopayi was killed by the three minors after he allegedly attacked their mother over suspected arson attack at his parents’ home in Zaka.
According to a police memo the deceased’s brother Tapera Munekwa was hired to thatch a hut.
There was a delay in payment and Munekwa is said to have burnt down the hut in protest.
“Tapera Munekwa did the job expecting to be paid soon after having done the job. He was not paid and he burnt the hut that he had thatched and was arrested,” read a police memo.
“The burning down of the hut angered the now deceased person who was at his work place,” further read the memo.
It is alleged that October 21 the member of the Zimbabwe National Army proceeded to Munekwa’s homestead and forcefully gained entry and assaulted Munekwa’s wife identified as Patience.
This irked her children who armed themselves and attacked the now deceased with logs and an axe.
“The now deceased suffered some deep cuts on the forehead and chin. The now deceased passed out while in the bedroom of Tapera (sic),” further reads the memo.
The slain soldier was found with three blue tablets, cigarettes, loose dagga wrapped in a rizzler paper and two sachets of dagga.
The matter is being investigated under RRB number 4219409 by Zaka police.
Lately, gruesome murders have been on the increase and psychologists have attributed this to unstable mental health exacerbated by the state of the economy.
“Tempers are flaring across the social strata and the ability to balance ration and emotion in dealing with social issues,” submitted Maxwell Bake a sociologist.
