A security guard tragically lost his life after being attacked by a street kid in the Harare Central Business District last week, who then fled the scene with only US$10 and an Itel cell phone.
Takudzwa Mombeshora, 20, appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova charged with murder. He was remanded in custody after advising him to apply for bail at the High Court.
The deceased in this case is Forbes Jile, 57, who was employed by Peace Security.
The State represented by Rufaro Chonzi alleges that on 15 January 2025 at around 0001 hours, the now deceased left Big Apple Sports Bar intending to look for transport to his place of residence in Dzivarasekwa.
As he was reportedly walking along Nelson Mandela Street in Harare CBD, he was confronted from behind by the accused and his accomplices who are still at large and all street vagrants who grabbed his bag and pushed him to the tarmac to look for transport.
During that time the accused person and his accomplices who are still at large allegedly approached the now deceased from behind and grabbed his sling bag before shoving him to the ground thereby hitting his head to the tarmac.
The court heard that they went on to search his pockets and took his wallet with cash US$10, an itel 70 cell phone and ran away leaving him lying on the tarmac. The body of the now deceased was discovered by informant who is a street kid near the place of scene and a report was made to the police.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Parirenyatwa hospital awaiting post mortem examination. A post mortem examination was carried and the pathologist concluded that cause of death was due to head trauma and subdumal hematoma.
On 21 January 2025, information was received about the whereabouts of the accused who had disappeared from Harare CBD soon after committing the offence.
The information was pursued to Copa cabana where upon sight of detectives, he became violent whilst resisting arrest and bit one detective before being finally subdued.
