LOCAL Government,Public Works and National Housing minister July Moyo has ordered the suspension of two senior Chitungwiza Town Council (CTC) senior officials , for obstructing the course of justice in a current disciplinary hearing process.
The council is investigating illegal parceling out of land in the dormitory town.
The affected officials are Acting Town Clerk David Duma and the Housing and Community Services Director, Hazel Sithole and the duo was sent on forced leave due to abuse of office in terms of Section 314 and 316 of the Urban Councils Act.
In a statement issued by Moyo on Tuesday, it was within the Urban Councils Act to suspend employees pending conclusion of investigations.
“The investigator has advised that the council is currently issuing stands and the practice is obstructing the team in their investigation into the allocation of stands.”
“In order to facilitate the conclusion of the investigation, I hereby order to ease all allocations of land for any purpose until I lift suspension,” he said.
Moyo also said the presence of Duma and Sithole may hamper police investigations and that evidence may be tampered with in contravention of their bail conditions.
Moyo said it is the duty of the ministry to maintain and restore good governance to Chitungwiza in the public interest.
