MDC Alliance Youth Assembly disputes ZEC voter registration figures

MDC Alliance Youth assembly chairperson Obey Sithole has dismissed the recently released Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) voters registration 2021 figures saying it is a ploy to demotivate the voting public adding the Nelson Chamisa-led party had single-handedly registered more than 2000 people in the just ended year.

In a statement ZEC stated that only  2 971 people registered to vote in 2021, a figure many analysts and opposition leaders are disputing.

Sithole who is also former Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) said the time has come for youths to control the outcome of the forthcoming plebiscite.

“We need to be vigilant and tactical, ZEC recently lied to us that they have only registered slightly over 2000 people when we all know that as a party we have registered a number which surpasses 2000 by far. It is a plot to rig,” Sithole told Zim Morning Post.

Sithole added that the youth have to go and vote in numbers and stay at their polling station until results have been announced.

The youthful leader is confident their leader Nelson Chamisa has already won the elections before going to the polls and there was need to safeguard that victory.

“It is clear that ‘Mukomana akapinda’ (Nelson Chamisa has won) therefore the vote has to be protected. I urge everyone to register, vote and protect their vote as we march towards a New Zimbabwe which will be ushered by Nero,” he said.

Zimbabwe will go for harmonised elections in 2023. The year 2022 has been declared to be a year of political action.

Sithole believes ZEC wants to create a false intention to create a false impression

“Their intention is to create a false impression that the generality of citizenry has no interest in elections, they are aware that every new voter is a nail to the coffin,” he said.

“It is good that ZEC has exposed itself at this point, it gives us ample time and more motivation to deal with their compromised acts to clear the way for the triumph of our President in 2023.”

“I kindly urge fellows Zimbabweans to contribute in any a form so that we collectively expose the visible in some of these institutions and defeat this incompetent incumbent regime.”

The MDC Alliance is targeting more than five million votes ahead of the decisive plebiscite.
