Masvingo teenager jailed 13 years for raping cousin

A 19-year-man from Masvingo will spend the next 13 years in prison after he was found guilty for raping his cousin sister who is five years old.
The accused, Mike Simbini, raped his cousin from Mudzingwa village who is currently doing ECD A, at a local primary school.
Simbini appeared before Judith Zuyu on December 15 who sentenced him to 13 years in jail on which two years are suspended on condition of good behavior.
Prosecutor Liberty Hove told the court that on November 30 2021 around 0800hrs the complaint was left home in the company of her other cousin brother (9) by their grandmother who had gone to do laundry at the river.
The complaint’s cousin brother decided to go and fetch water at the well leaving complaint at home alone when the accused arrived at home where he lured the complaint in a hut and raped her.
The court heard that the cousin came back from the well and found him taking advantage of the complainant and disclosed the matter to their grandmother when she came back from the river.
On December 9 the grandmother accompanied her granddaughter to the police station which led to the arrest of Simbini.
Accused is complaint’s cousin in that their mothers are blood sisters.
