Police have arrested Locadia Chinzodzi for fraud after the 31-year-old together with Juda Mutimutema, who is still at large, packaged fake maize seed in 25kg Seed-Co pockets for selling to members of the public.
The arrest effected in Karoi on Sunday saw law enforcement agents recovering fake maize seed which include 9x25kg 727 (Seed-Co), 2x25kg 719 (Seed-Co).
About 125kg of maize was applied with green pigment paint (colouring), 722 (Seed-Co) certification labels, 7xk2 certification labels, 4x50kg bags of white maize and 57 stickers of hybrid maize seed.
“We also recovered PGS 65, 47x25kg K2 empty pockets, 1x30ml stamp pad ink-blue, 9x200ml ICC universal paint colourant (green), 2x25ml Newden Universal Tinder (green), 1x100ml pigment paints unipaste tinters (green), 25kgx67 (Seed-Co) empty pockets and 6x2kg (Seed-Co) empty pockets,” Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said in a statement.
Elsewhere, Police arrested 243 people throughout the country for cross border crimes.
Cumulative arrests stand at 50301 since operation, “No to Cross Border Crimes/ Fhasi Ngamilandu Yamukanoni Yamashango/Mhosva Pamiganhu Ngadzipere/Amacala Kawaphele Emingceleni Yelizwe,” began in January 2021.
Meanwhile, Police arrested 80 people across the country for engaging in illegal mining activities.
So far 48235 arrests have been made under the operation, “Chikorokoza Ngachipere/ Isitsheketsha Kasiphele And No To Machete Gangs”.
In other crimes, Police in Mwenezi are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of theft of 20 vaccination cards which was discovered on September 1 2021 at Chirindi Clinic.
