THERE has been a turn of events in the matter in which Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) discovered 210 ZRP and 40 municipal police helmets in the basement of a building in the capital, Zim Morning Post has learnt.
When police discovered the helmets, they quickly blamed the MDC and later arrested a city man Mitchel Chibwe who claimed to have bought the helmets at an auction.
The screws have turned and ZRP is under fire and burdened to prove that the helmets in question were never sent for auctioning.
Inside sources said, there is panic within the force with senior officers playing a blame game as the heat increases.
“The police is in trouble because they arrested Chibwe without proper investigations and now it is their burden to prove their case.
“As you know the concept he who alleges must prove, the police is seized with the need to prove,” said our source.
Zim Morning Post understands that the helmets were sold at a Harare City Council auction and it is highly likely that some top cops will face the music.
After the ‘discovery’ of the helmets police sealed off Morgan Tsvangirai House (party headquarters)- a move that was lambasted by MDC secretary general Charlton Hwende.
“According to the police, anyone breaking the law in the CBD is MDC? Our head office is Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House at the corner of Nelson Mandela and Angwa Street.
“We have no office or basement at Robinson House. Our offices were attacked early this year by known Zanu PF thugs and to date no one was arrested,” Hwende said on Twitter.
