Harare seeks partners in Mbare Township project

GOVERNMENT has assigned Harare town clerk Hosiah Abraham Chisango to negotiate with those interested in partnering with council in redeveloping Mbare Township.

The decision was arrived at during a council meeting on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Chisango was mandated with negotiating with other partners, with the view to offer them one or two ventures to undertake, with other projects also meant for sharing among other interested partners so that the project is promptly completed.

“It was noted that in view of the vastness of the project, it was in the best interest of council to accommodate other players who would take up other projects within the same development,” read the minutes.

This came as various corporates submitted proposals to council after obtaining information on the Mukuvisi Development Corridor which encompasses Mbare and its environs.

The town clerk was also mandated to ensure that all legal, technical, administrative, environmental and financial due diligence formalities on the project are handled properly.

The project also involves the rehabilitation of Mbare Musika into a modern day market, with refrigeration facilities for the proper storage of tonnes of perishables that pass through the place everyday.

The rank is also earmarked for redevelopment in one of the projects. Shawasha Shopping Mall is already under construction.
