GOVERNMENT has on Thursday read a riot act to registered miners who wantonly neglect to pay levies to the rural district councils in the areas where they carry out their activities, Zim Morning Post can report.
This was revealed by Mines and Mining Development minister Winston Chitando, during the first edition of the Rural District Councillors (RDC) Meeting at a Harare hotel.
“The government will enforce and monitor that the miners are paying the revenue.
“We will also ensure that they have fully registered to operate by the ministry of mines,” Chitando said.
He also said it was the RDC’s obligation to check if the miners comply with regulations.
He said his ministry will jealously guard against any threats to the national vision of getting achieving revenue of US$12 billion by 2023.
“The government of Zimbabwe under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa is going to guard the vision of 2023 of the ministry of mines and minerals so that it creates revenue and obtain 12 billion target, “said Chitando
“Those who fail to comply with the mines ministry regulations will face the full wrath of the law,” he added.
