Controversial businessman George Katsimberis accused of stalling trial proceedings

PROPERTY developer George Katsimberis who is facing allegations of defrauding a local land developer has filed a fresh demand for stay of proceedings to allow him to transcribe the record of proceedings in another court case where he is a complainant.

Katsimberis allegedly duped a local property developer of close to US$1 million in a joint venture to build cluster houses in Borrowdale Harare.

He was previously represented by Tendai Biti. His new lawyers Charles Warara and Harrison Nkomo on the last remand asked for a two week period to assess the record and receive instructions from Katsimberis.

However, on Tuesday Warara and Nkomo further submitted demands saying they needed to transcribe the record where their client is a complainant.

The State led by Michael Reza and Tafara Chirambira have been accusing the defence of stalling as the case has dragged on due to several postponements.

Magistrate Letween Rwodzi postponed the matter to December 16 for trial.

The state however told court that the defence must have their documents in order on the day if not the trial will proceed as scheduled.

It was alleged that after signing agreement Katsimberis built the showroom without an approved Harare City Council plan and did not use recommended construction material.
