Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s worsening rare health condition has compelled government to Look East and consult the Chinese government for a joint mission to restore his health to normalcy, Zim Morning Post has learnt.
Chiwenga has been relocated to China to seek expert treatment with assistance from South African ,Indian and Chinese medical gurus.
“The office of the President wishes to inform the nation that the Vice President this week left for the republic of China where he is set to undergo further medical test,” said presidential spokesperson George Charamba in statement Monday.
Charamba said the decision to transfer the Vice President to China was reached after high level consultations between the two governments.
“His relocation to China which builds on the satisfactory recovery progress which he has been making follows weekend discussions at the highest level between government of Zimbabwe and China at which a decision was taken to allow Chinese medical experts to join their expert counterparts from Zimbabwe, South Africa and India in attending the VP,” read part of the statement.
This development comes barely two days after President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced that Chiwenga was recovering in South Africa and now able to do some exercises.
Chiwenga claims that he has a rare skin disease which started during the Operation Restore legacy in November 2017.
He has been in and out of hospitals between India, Zimbabwe and South Africa since October 2018.
