QADR Amini’s brace and an own goal stunned CAPS United and thrust FC Platinum into the driving seat of a pulsating Premier Soccer League (PSL) title race that will go down to the wire.
Effectively, the PSL title race will be decided on the final day when CAPS United face FC Platinum in a winner-take-all contest at the National Sports Stadium.
FC Platinum needs only a draw to be crowned PSL champions after seeing off Black Rhinos to leap frog United and lead with 59 points to United’s 58, ahead of the decider.
On Wednesday Amini, a former FC Platinum utility player now an influential player for Ngezi Platinum Stars won himself rare plaudits from his former paymasters.
He pulled the strings at Baobab Stadium as Ngezi flew out of the blocks to register an early 18th minute lead.
Amini extended Ngezi Platinum Stars advantage in the 52nd minute before Spencer Masunda’s own goal deflated United.
To their credit, Makepekepe pulled one back through Dominic Chungwa’s 86th minute strike.
CAPS United’s saviour on previous occasions, Newman Sianchali, added a second on the 90th minute, a late rally which proved to be too little to late.
The Green Machine had traveled from Harare to Ngezi in a battle with Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra).
The tax collector prevented United from using the bus donated by China-based striker Nyasha Mushekwi insisting they are still investigating the duty paid and will be conducting a second assessment.
