Bribe-paying UZ students left stranded

UNIVERSITY of Zimbabwe (UZ) students have been left counting their losses after Computer Centre staff member asked for bribes of US$50 or ZWL$500 from desperate students to process their accommodation applications.

The university has requested that affected students to report at the institution going on to release on its website the full list of all students who legitimately acquired campus accommodation for the new semester that starts on August 26. 

The University of Zimbabwe has released the full list of all students who were legally and procedurally allocated campus accommodation for the new semester that starts on 26 August 2019.The list is available on the University website at www.uz.ac.zw,” UZ public relations department said in a statement. 

Students who secured accommodation in unscrupulous circumstances have been stripped of those rooms and stripped from the list.

Students who were allocated University accommodation through illegal and clandestine means have no accommodation and are naturally excluded from the list,” UZ added. 

“The University is encouraging such students to come forward and report their cases. A special desk to entertain such reports has been established as follows,” the university concluded.
