Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Joel Biggie Matiza has on Thursday morning suspended Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) general manager David Chawota with immediate effect, the Zim Morning Post can reveal.
A highly placed government official confirmed the development and said the suspension was effected because he had a matter that is sub judice.
Chawota is currently languishing in remand prison after he was denied bail on Wednesday.
He is facing criminal abuse of office charges before after allegedly usurping the board powers and unilaterally awarded a US$33 million contract to a company he handpicked despite contrary advice from government.
He stands accused of signing a contract without board approval which saw CAAZ purchasing equipment worth US$33 million from a handpicked company without going to tender and the State opposed his bail.
