BULAWAYO- Highlanders talented but controversial midfielder Denzel Khumalo, aged 21 has yet again found his name on the wrong side of the field.
Khumalo was involved in a nasty brawl with team manager Vezigama Dlodlo after the team’s Wednesday training session.
It’s reported that the scuffle was caused after Dlodlo had informed Denzel that he was going to get deducted winning bonuses as per the club’s regulations for an offense he had committed.
The incident might cause Khumalo to miss the crunch away tie against Caps United on Sunday.
Addressing journalists at the weekly press conference on Wednesday, team coach Mandla Mpofu confirmed the brawl and said the club will take up disciplinary action.
“It happened but it happened when we had left after the training session. As we speak the club authority will take up disciplinary measures to deal with the matter after that we will officially communicate with the media on the outcome of the matter.
“He hasn’t been playing well this season and has been sidelined a lot because of his fitness levels. He is a brilliant boy and we hope he will work hard on his fitness levels and also his discipline. We wish him well and also wish he take up this industry very well and wish what measures that will be taken by the club won’t destroy his career,” said Mpofu.
Khumalo who is a favorite for many fans is not a stranger to controversy, this year he was suspended for indiscipline and at one point one time went AWOL in what was reported as a move to force for a Bosso exit under the leadership of then coach Madinda Ndlovu.
Khumalo then resurfaced a few days after the exit of Ndlovu who moved to Botswana’s ambitious side Gaborone United, making it clear that he was against the leadership of the former Bosso winger Ndlovu.
Last year, Khumalo was named as part of a group of players who took part in alcohol and substance abuse and also bedding older women whom they interact with at Shebeens in the high density suburbs of Mzilikazi and Mpopoma where he resides.
This led to the ginger haired player to be relegated to Highlanders developmental side Bosso 90 which plays in the less fashionable Division one league as disciplinary action.
Last month the wayward player was reported to have assaulted his girlfriend only identified as Lorraine from Mpopoma suburb in a city nightclub named The Vibe.
