Flamboyant businessman and Intratrek Zimbabwe managing director Wicknell Chivayo has embraced the call by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for private sector to complement government efforts in luring investors, Zim Morning Post reports.
Chivayo ,who has interests in the renewable energy sector , met Malawi president elect Peter Mutharika at his official residence this week.
Save for that it was a business trip, intricate details of the duo’s discussion could not be immediately established but part of the agenda was Chivayo congratulating him on his election after outsmarting opponent Lazarus Chakwera in a tightly contested plebiscite held in May.
“I spent the last 5 days in Malawi on a business trip and more importantly had to pass by and congratulate His Excellency the president of the republic of Malawi Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika on his victory on the recent election,” wrote Chivayo on his official social media pages.
He waxed lyrical about the contribution of the ruling party in building Malawian economy emphasizing on the strong historical ties between Malawi and Zimbabwe
“He is indeed a wonderful father figure to us all Africans.
“As a long time supporter of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP),I commend his tireless efforts to grow the economy and redevelop Malawi to improve lives of the ordinary citizens,” he added.
The private sector plays a pivotal role in engaging with foreign business people and pave way for investors in tandem with ‘Zim is Open for business’ mantra.
Last month, images of Chivayo in the company of Zambian president Edgar Lungu in Lusaka went viral on social media.
Chivayo has in the past managed to bring investors in the country in line with the Look East policy after he struck a technical partnership with SHANGHAI Stock Exchange-listed CHiNT Electric Co.
