The Zimbabwean Republic Police (ZRP) has pressed criminal charges on the three women activists who were abducted and sexually abused, Zim Morning Post has learnt.
This was revealed through the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) who are representing the trio.
ZLHR said their clients Johana Mamomber, Cecilia Chimbiri, and Netsai Marova are being charged for contravening Section 37 of Criminal Code for gathering with the intent to promote public violence and breach of peace.
They are also being charged for contravening Statutory Instrument 99 of 2020 which barrs all public gatherings during the fight against COVID 19.
The trio together with some MDC Alliance youth activists participated in an unsanctioned anti-government protest on 13 May in Warren Park.
The charges against the trio comes at a time they are receiving treatment at a hospital in Harare due to injuries sustained after they were abducted on the same day.
Although the ZRP has been making investigations on all those that participated on the unauthorised demonstration little progress has so far been made on the investigations leading to their abduction.
