Zacc nabs CIO operative in US$9k bribery storm


ZIMBABWE Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) on Tuesday arrested a Bulawayo based Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) officer, for demanding a US$9000 bribe from a Chinese businessman.

The operative was identified as Patrick Badza, a District Intelligence Officer based in Harare and Matsvimbo Chester Simbarashe an Operative in Harare, demanded money from a Chinese businessman who wanted to have work permits processed for his employees at Diamond Cement.

The Chinese businessman wanted to process Temporary Employment Permits for his foreign employees and the two officers are members of the Committee responsible for the approval of such permits.

Zacc investigators caught wind of the demand and a trap was set leading to Badza’s arrest at Sam Levy Village.

“The CIO operative was in the habit of swindling money from the same guy until he got fed up and reported the matter to Zacc leading to his arrest after he received US3500 which was marked,” said our inside source.

Zacc spokesperson John Makamure could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
Badza is expected to appear in court Wednesday.
