THE horrific death of vivacious former Studio 263 actress Anne Nhira better known by her screen name Vimbai Jari has not only exposed the horror of violence in neighbouring South Africa, but triggered the nostalgic feelings of one of the country’s most popular soapies, Studio 263.
Nhira died Wednesday night in South Africa at the age of 38.
Better known by her screen name Vimbai Jari, the multi-talented artist died from injuries sustained during a robbery in Bedfordview, an affluent suburb in South Africa on Monday, confirmed family spokesperson Julian Nhira.
Vimbai rose to fame through her role as lead actress in the Godwin Mawuru directed soapie Studio 263 in 2002.
She played her role with great finesse such that she became a role model and adore by viewers.
After donor fatigue hit the soapie, she relocated to South Africa where she reportedly took up different non-film related jobs to eke a decent living.
She also tried her hand in music which unfortunately suffered a stillbirth.
Lady luck smiled on her in 2014, when she made a successful attempt to resuscitate her ailing film career and landed a role in one of South Africa’s biggest soap operas Zabalaza that showed on MNet and SABC.
She also featured in a South African TV drama called Mutual Friend.

He runs Mahaka Media which produces documentaries, short films and his latest production was in his rural home of Chipinge.
He has also adjudicated at the NAMA awards.
Rose to prominence through her role as Tendai Jari, she is now a revered politician and a Senator on Zanu PF ticket.
Before venturing into politics, she used her entrepreneurial flair to launch a television show titled Timeout with Tatenda.
She is also a tobacco farmer in Mashonaland East.
Jabulani Jari, he was brother to Vimbai, played by the late Anne Nhira.
He joined the insurance and risk management industry and went on to study film in South Africa.
He is former husband to fellow colleague Chipo Bizure and the couple was blessed with a child.
He is currently based in South Africa.
Chirisa is one of the most successful Studio 263 actors having made a breakthrough in Hollywood.
Before Hollywood, he landed a role in one of South Africa’s big movies Mr Bones 2.
Known as Dredd Wely, the dreadlocked actor ventured into music and released an album called Another Plan.
The attempt to venture into music was unsuccessful as the genre he tried a hand in was endowed with great talented artists.
Her screenplay name was Eve and like the Biblical Eve she was very manipulative and coerced sugar daddies in the soapie.
She was married to Denzel and had one child.
Bizure has ventured into stage theatre and starred in one of Shimmer Chinodya’s plays that played at Theatre in the Park.
She is also a businesswoman in her own right.
She was famed as Mai Huni and she died in 2018.
She died a pauper as she became homeless and wallowed in poverty in the twilight stage of her life.
She, however, operated a thriving shebeen in Southerton, Harare. She doubled up as the make-up artist at the soapie.
Played the role of Sibo, she is one of the most respected sports casters in the country having hosted a popular radio sports show on Star FM.
She is currently the marketing manager for Dynamos Football Club.
Most of the Studio 263 cast and crew have since left the film industry and ventured in different enterprises, while some have passed on.
