HARARE City Council (HCC) has increased charges for clamping and towing of vehicles by close to 1 000 percent.
The new charges are effective from December 13, 2019.
In a statement released by the HCC, wheel-clamping for light motor vehicles has been increased from ZWL57 to ZWL500.
“Light motor vehicles will now be charged ZW ZWL500; 15-seater and 18-seaters commuter omnibuses will now fork out ZWL700 and ZWL800, respectively.”
“Conventional buses and lorries will now be penalised ZWL800 and articulated heavy lorries ZWL900,” read the statement.
Tow-away charges will now range from ZWL500 to ZWL800, depending with the type of the vehicle.
Light motor vehicles will now be charged ZWL500 while commuter omnibus 15 seaters and 18 seaters will now be charged ZWL700 and ZWL800, respectively.
HCC acting corporate communications manager Innocent Ruwende confirmed the new charges and said the upward revision was triggered by the prevailing economic situation.
Meanwhile and according to the African Development Bank’s principal country economist, Walter Odero, Zimbabwe will require ZWL34 billion over the next decade to restore its road, rail, aviation, energy, ICT and water and sanitation infrastructure to proper working condition.
