Activist and MDC Alliance official Makomborero Haruzivishe has been sentenced to 14 months behind bars after he was convicted of inciting public violence and resisting police arrest.
The former ZINASU secretary-general was ordered to serve 36 months in prison of which 22 months were suspended.
Haruzivishe — who was represented by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights lawyer Kossam Ncube – was also appearing in courtroom 6 together with Allan Moyo and Denford Ngadziore, facing other charges.
Ncube had earlier made submissions in mitigation following the conviction of Haruvishe which was later followed by the sentence handed down by Harare Magistrate Judith Taruvinga.
Meanwhile, Freelance journalist Samuel Takawira sustained injuries on his hand after he was assaulted by police officers outside Harare Magistrates Court.
