Lawyers march update:Police clip protesters’wings

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has moved in to technically ‘thwart’ the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) march against police brutality set for Friday, Zim Morning Post can report.

The police limited the number of participants to four, citing security concerns.

In a letter dated November 28 and addressed to human rights lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, Chief Superintendent Officer Commanding Police Regulatory Authority Mugomeri stated that a maximum number of four lawyers would be allowed to hand over the petition to the Home Affairs minister, Kazembe Kazembe.

In view of security concerns, I suggest that not more than four representatives hand over the petition to the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage and Commisioner General of Police respectively,” Mugomeri wrote.

The lawyers, however, have vowed to defy the order, saying it was tantamount to muzzling freedom of expression.
