A KWEKWE man has been dragged to court facing charges of fraud after he allegedly misrepresented to the complainant, leading the latter to suffer a prejudice of ZAR390 000.00.
Honest Shumba (30) appeared before Harare magistrate Learnmore Mapiye facing fraud charges and was released on ZWL300, coupled with stringent reporting conditions.
The matter was remanded to November 6.
Prosecuting, Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on September 13, Shumba approached the complainant at his workplace and misrepresented to him that he was selling a black Range Rover vehicle which was in Johannesburg, South Africa, through a lease-purchase agreement.
Shumba produced pictures of the purported vehicle to the complainant, who then developed an interest in buying the vehicle for ZAR390 000 and on June 11, Shumba was initially given ZAR70 000-00 in cash.
The State also heard that the accused promised to deliver the said vehicle upon settlement of the ZAR320 000 balance. On June 13, complainant made a bank transfer of the ZAR320 000-00 balance into an FNB bank South African account.
After the complainant made the full payment, Shumba never delivered the vehicle but instead became evasive.
This prompted the complainant to report the matter to the police. As a result of such misrepresentation, complainant suffered a total prejudice of ZAR390 000.00.
Upon arrest, nothing was recovered.
