Two car dealers have been hauled before a Harare magistrate facing fraud charges after they entered into a car deal using an unregistered vehicle prejudicing the complainant of over USD$20 000.
Abel Mugove Chakamanga and Cleopas Chinonje appeared before Harare Magistrate Barbra Mateko.
The accused were released on $100 bail coupled with conditions and that was to surrender their traveling documents including passports.
The state led by Sebastian Mutizirwa alleges that on a date unknown but in the month of July last year and in Eastlea, Harare the two connived and sold a Land Rover Discovery 4 which they knew had been fraudulently entered in both the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) and Central Vehicle Registry systems.
It is alleged that the pair went and misrepresented to the complainant that the car was properly registered prompting him to act on the misinterpretation and go ahead with processing the deal.
The complainant traded his Mercedes Benz for a Land rover Discovery 4 and topped up US$ 9 500 resulting in the complainant paying a total of US$ 21 500-00.
At the time of the arrest only US4 12 000-00 was recovered leaving the pending balance of USD $9 500.
