THE Bloomberg Foundation, owned by former New York city Mayor, Micheal Bloomberg, recently granted US$100 000 to Harare City Council (HCC) to enable it carry out a survey on non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The project is set to commence from January to December next year. In the recent Education, Health, Housing and Community Services minutes, director of health Kennedy Masunda said HCC had secured US$100 000 funding to carry out a survey which is aimed at improving health outcomes in Harare.
“The population-based survey will improve health facilities and more than 60 countries are getting support from the foundation in various projects.
“NCDs have been on the increase both in the city and nationally over the past four years,” he said.
Masunda also emphasised on the need to carry out a survey on NCDs in order to determine the extent of the problem and come up with commensurate interventions.
HCC said there was no recorded information on NCDs at national level and it has been difficult to come up with matching intervention programmes that can address the challenges on the ground adequately.
The owner, Micheal Bloomberg used to provide funding to mayors to make it possible for them be agents of change and improve health outcomes in their spheres of jurisdiction.
